ABECKETT ROAD

Our BRIEF:

Our brief was to transform a small mid-century cottage into a functional, aesthetically pleasing home fit for 21st century living.

The existing layout of the home had the main living areas segmented into separate spaces, a small master bedroom and disproportionately large laundry with minimal bathroom facilities. Externally, a small, single-car garage was clearly inadequate for the motoring needs of current-day families.

what we did:

The pre-construction phase required professional asbestos and soil assessments. Considerable excavation was required to both clear impeding vegetation and prepare for completely new internal and external plumbing with new storm water and waste connections.

Internally, the house was essentially gutted. With a new layout pending, all new wooden framing was constructed. The once segregated kitchen was opened out into a spacious, open plan living area enabling interaction between the home chef and family members and guests. Further modernisation saw the master bedroom expanded to accommodate a WIR and glamorous en-suite featuring a double shower. Additional bathroom space was also enhanced with a luxurious main bathroom and additional powder room.

The discovery of hardwood flooring beneath existing carpet and old vinyl inspired a flooring revival. With additional new hardwood flooring being required where the old fireplace was, were laid. Complementing the enhanced existing floorboards.

New entries and glazing completed the internal metamorphosis. Externally, all new roofing ensured the new home will be protected for many years to come. The addition of a huge new garage on a new concrete slab, complete with car hoist provides the ultimate home mechanic’s mansion.

For MC Custom Builds, it was a joy to witness and be a part of the re-birth of this home into a new century and new life.
